HOOP DAWGS GET A BILLIKEN WITH 38 SECONDS TO GO

With the game just coming to an incredible finish, the Georgia Hoop Dawgs defeat the St. Louis Billikens, and, for the first time since the 2007-2008 season our Hoop Dawgs are 3-0 starting the B ball season. The win comes despite the absence of pre-season SEC player of the year, Trey Tompkins, still out with a high ankle sprain.  The Dawgs got their first lead with 38.5 seconds left, after slowly but surely playing catch up the entire game. Georgia’s Leslie buried an eight footer to take the lead. The final score was 61-59 after St. Louis’ Robinson dropped a no look pass to Price in the last second to give the Dawgs the win! Now, for the important stuff. What the hell is a Billiken? The Billiken was created Oct. 8, 1908, when Florence Pretz, a teacher and illustrator from Kansas City, patented a design for an elflike creature with pixie ears, a mischievous smile and a tuft of hair on his pointed head. Reportedly, the image came to her in a dream. Legend has it that the Billiken has three kinds of luck – good, better and best. Buying a Billiken gives the buyer good luck. To have one given to you is better luck. The best luck comes if the Billiken is stolen. (source: slubilikens.com)

Next game up is November 25, 2010 at 7:00 PM EST on ESPN2 against Notre Dame in Orlando, Florida in the Old Spice Classic.
