BIG JOHN; BIG BAD JOHN; HE STANDS 6-FOOT-4 AND WEIGHS 350; MAKIN’ HIM A DAWG WOULD BE DAMN NIFTY!

JUCO NG John Jenkins, standing at 6’ 4” and weighing in at 350 pounds has, for obvious reasons, been called the next ‘Mount Cody’ (as in Terrence Cody who played for Alabama).  More importantly, this is the exact player the Dawgs need to make the 3-4 defense work.  If we do not have a huge athletic player at that position to stop the run, the 3-4 simply will not work and we will get the same defensive result we had this year, with everybody and their brother running all over us. As per Jenkins, referring to his playing time at Mississippi Gulf Coast, said “Ever since I was here, I’ve got that comparison of, ‘Oh, am I the next Terrence Cody?’ ” (source: dogbytes.com Athens Banner-Herald).

Being ranked at the nation’s No. 6 junior college prospect by Rivals.com ranks, Jenkins said regarding Georgia’s recruitment of him, “They really pretty much came and were like, ‘We really desperately need a nose tackle’. ” “They said they heard about me and that I was a key link to their defense because they just switched from a four-man (front) to a three-man.”  The young man said that he was not going to consider any school at this point unless his mother has met the coaches and approved.  Accordingly, Rodney Garner, who initially recruited Jenkins, Mark Richt, and Todd Grantham all made the trip to his home in Connecticut to speak to Mama, and allegedly Mama approves. When DE Ray Drew announced his allegiance to the Dawgs this past week, he called out to the remaining four big uncommitted recruits that Georgia wants. “I heard the call and I’ve given an answer,” Drew said. “Isaiah Crowell, we’re waiting on you; Antonio Richardson, we’re waiting on you; John Jenkins, we’re waiting on you; and Jeoffrey Pagan, we’re waiting on you. Come join what we have put together as ‘the Dream Team.’ A dream is only a dream until you make it reality.”  Jenkins acknowledged that he heard about the “call” all the way down in Gainesville, where he was taking his last official visit to the ‘stinking, ugly, slimey, lizards’ this weekend.  He said that he looked forward to watching the video of his new befriended buddy, Mr. Drew, but when asked whether Ray’s decision and call will have an effect on his decision, he responded with ‘a definite maybe, but not really’ type answer.  Boy, I’m glad that we got that clarified. Just cross your fingers, toes, and whatever you have that’s bendable that Jenkins heeds Drew’s ‘call.’  Come on big fella, give the Dawgs a break, we need one.
