WHAT ABOUT ME? EARLY RECRUITS OF THE DREAM TEAM WHO HAVN’T RECEIVED THEIR PROPS! PART 1: WATTS DANTZLER

With all the hype surrounding those on the CMR’s ‘Dream Team’ list who waited until the last minute to commit, such as Jay Rome, Malcolm Mitchell, John Jenkins, and of course our main man, the one and only, the ‘dude’ from Columbus, “Feet don’t fail me now” Isaiah Crowell, the guys on the list who committed early have kind of gotten overlooked. Therefore, beginning today, I feel that it is only fair that we shine a little light on the other guys who have sworn their allegiance to the Red and Black.

Watts Dantzler, 6-foot-8, 330-pounder, widely regarded by scouts as the top offenisve tackle in Georgia committed to the Dawgs on Father’s Day 2010. That was a special day for this young man to commit to UGA as his father, Danny Dantzler, a former UGA player, died of Lou Gehrig’s disease last year.

Watts had over 40 scholarship offers but chose to be a Dawg. At his announcement, Dantzler, who actually was on top of CMR’s wish list, said “I want to thank all the schools that have taken the time to recruit me. I have been truly blessed to have had the opportunity to see some of the great schools in the country. Today being Father’s Day truly means more than anything in the world to me. I had, and still have, the best dad in the world, and I know he’s still looking down on me.” “I’ve rooted for Georgia since I was a little kid. Having my dad, mother and grandparents attend Georgia means I’ve had red and black running through my blood my whole life. Coach Mark Richt and my position coach, Stacy Searels, are the two best coaches in the country at what they do.” “I’ve felt at home there since I was a kid. I’ve always dreamed of putting on the red and black. One thing my dad always said when I was young was ‘Go, Dawgs. Sic ’em.'” (source timesfreepress.com Chattanooga Times Free Press)

Well, there really is not too much you can add to what this young man had to say about truly being a Dawg through and through. Can you ask for any better attitude? And to boot, I have a hunch he can open up quite a hole for Mr. Crowell to run through. Welcome Watts! We at Dawn of the Dawg.Com wish you only success.
