DAWGS GET A REAL GOOD HIRE, . . . THIS TIME!

Ok, very interesting!  We go from hiring a pretty much unknown UAB Offensive line coach with no real history of coaching in the big leagues (college or NFL) to coach our O’ Line, to hiring a coach with a very nice pedigree to coach our linebackers.   Washington Redskins assistant coach, Kirk Olivadotti, has officially been hired as the Bulldogs’ new inside linebackers coach.  He replaces Warren Belin on the Georgia staff.  Belin left two weeks ago to become the Carolina Panthers’ linebackers coach.

Olivadotti, having joined the Redskin’s staff in 2000, has since then  served as a defensive quality control coach, helped coach the special-teams units, the defensive backs and the defensive line,  and more recently served as linebackers coach (2007-09) and defensive assistant (2010).  Now, he has the pedigree that I was questioning why our Offensive Line Coaching hire didn’t have.  He comes from an even greater pedigree, his father,Tom Olivadotti, being a long-time NFL defensive coach with the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Houston Texans. On the surface, at the very least, it appears to me that two different people were put in charge of hiring for these two different positions, neither of which were Mark Richt.  Reports regarding the Offensive Line Coach position reveals that the one and apparently only candidate, Will Friend, was initially contacted by Mike Bobo during recruiting, then a couple of weeks later he was invited to Athens to meet CMR, at which time he was hired.  That’s it, unless a lot took place behind the scenes of which no one is aware.

Regarding the hire of the linebackers coach, this was put in the hands of our Dallas Cowboy alumni,Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham.  What does he do?  He goes after the best person he can get for that position.  Someone who has battled the giants and knows what’s up!

Only time will tell which of these coaches, perhaps both, will work out as a great coach for UGA.  However, the one thing that seems kind of bizarre to me out of all of this, is that it certainly appears, again at least on the surface only, is that CMR appears to have had a pretty much ‘hands off’ approach to finding replacements for these coaching vacancies.  If there was at least one position he should have been on top of was the Offensive Line Coaching position, which he apparently turned over to Mike ‘Doh Doh’.  Considering we had the worst rushing stats in the SEC last season, maybe this was the position that we should have turned over to an experienced NFL coach.  Yuh think!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
