West Virginia joins Big 12

West Virginia joins the Big 12 earlier in the week. West Virginia who was in the Big East for many years will now be in a new conference. West Virginia will join the Big 12 officially on July 1, 2012. The Big East however wants West Virginia to to be on a 27 month notice along with Pitt and Syracuse. So that means West Virginia would join the Big 12 in 2014. This was an ongoing process of teams joining different conferences. If West Virginia does leave the Big East early, they will have to pay $5 million exiting fee. Earlier in the month, Missouri was offered by the SEC.

If West Virginia does join the Big 12 on July 1st, 2012 then Missouri would have to decide if it wants to stay or leave. Texas A&M already accepted to join the SEC. Big 12 did lose Nebraska to the Big 10 earlier in the year.

Too many teams are leaving the “Tradition” conference to play for conferences that want to make more money. West Virginia joining the Big 12 is not a good geographically location. I mean come on, West Virginia in a conference that is in the Southwest and in the heart of America? No, way doesn’t make any sense at all. Texas Longhorns at one time thought of leaving the Big 12 to join the Pac 10. In the next few days, we will find out if Missouri does join the SEC.

IF Missouri does join the SEC, Auburn would move to the East division. Right now the SEC has 12 teams plus Texas A&M which would make 13 next year. Another school that would change division in the SEC is Alabama. Alabama would join the East division if Missouri joins the SEC. Some experts think Alabama would stay in the West division.
