Georgia loses the SEC opener to Alabama

Georgia Bulldogs lost to Alabama Crimson Tide 74-59 in Athens tonight. Georgia is 9-6,0-1 in conference play. Georgia is without Marcus Thornton, who is the leader in rebounding for Georgia. Georgia didn’t exactly have their game plan intact. Alabama Crimson Tide is 12-3, 1-0 in conference play, had big night from Trevor Lacey. Trevor Lacey who is a freshman, scored 19 points in the game.

Early in the game, both teams swapped leads. Georgia led a few times in the 1st half of the game. Last lead by Georgia was 11-10 when Gerald Robinson punched a 2 pointer just before the shot clock went to zero. Georgia Bulldogs made the game close in the 2nd half, with the score of 52-48. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led a 2nd half rally on Donte Williams stuff tip of his own miss. Alabama went on a 12-2 run for 4.5 minutes to separate the Bulldogs in anyway of making of a comeback. In fact, the Bulldogs went 5 minutes without scoring in the 2nd half. That made it an easy ride for the Crimson Tide to pickup their first conference win. Tony Mitchell of Alabama scored 17 points and he had his family from Swainsboro,Ga  in the stands. Alabama out rebounded Georgia 35-20. Gerald Robinson of Georgia had 11 points in the game.

Alabama continued their winning streak at 4 games while Georgia got their 5 game winning streak snapped. Georgia had some chances early in the game to take control but they couldn’t. The Bulldogs will face Florida in Gainesville on Tuesday night.
