Jasmine Hassell scored 14 points and Jasmine James chipped in with 12 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals to lead 13th-ranked Georgia to a 66-34 victory over Arkansas on Thursday evening at Stegeman Coliseum.

Arkansas’ 34 points represented the fewest by an SEC opponent in regular-season play in Lady Dog history. The previous mark was established in a 78-35 victory over South Carolina on Feb. 1, 1997. With the win, Georgia improves to 22-4 (10-3 SEC) on the season while Arkansas drops to 17-9 (5-8 SEC).

“We started very well and played that way for all 40 minutes,” said coach Andy Landers. “The thing that was cool was that we played so hard early, and when we needed to go to the bench, it didn’t fall off. Everyone looked terrific.”

Along with Hassell and James, four other Lady Dawgs scored at least five points, as Anne Marie Armstrong tallied nine, Khaalidah Miller and Erika Ford each scored eight apiece, and Merritt Hempe added five points. Hempe also recorded a career-high four blocks, and fellow freshman Shacobia Barbee tied a career high with six assists to help lead the Lady Dogs. As a team, Georgia dished out 17 assists while getting 27 points from the bench and scoring 34 points in the paint. The Lady Dogs also tied a season-high with eight blocked shots on the night.

Georgia opened the game on a 9-0 run behind a pair of lay-ups from James and a three-pointer from Anne Marie Armstrong. The Georgia defense held the Razorbacks to just two points over the first six minutes of play and only four points through the first ten minutes while building an 18-4 lead. Both teams struggled to score over the next two minutes, but a pair of free throws by Miller and back-to-back buckets by Hassell three minutes later would help Georgia take a 30-16 lead entering the break.

The Georgia offense did not let up in the second half, as Hassell scored the Lady Dawgs’ first six points out of the break to put Georgia up 36-18. Georgia continued to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the half and extended their advantage to 26 points after a three-pointer from Miller with just over 12 minutes remaining. Georgia’s defense held Arkansas to just 26 percent shooting from the floor, including 12.5 percent from three-point range. No Arkansas player scored in double figures, but Dominique Wilson and Erin Gatling each chipped in eight points apiece to lead the Razorbacks.
