Georgia Swimmers Improve Times At Last Chance Meet

Several Georgia swimmers improved their provisional qualifying times on Saturday during the Bulldog Last Chance Meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The NCAA Championships will be held later this month in Indianapolis, and the Last Chance Meet affords swimmers a chance to post times that are automatic (A cuts) or provisional (B cuts) for the NCAAs.

The Bulldogs made the most noise in the men’s 200-yard freestyle. Jameson Hill improved his B-cut time to 1:35.57 and Martin Grodzki moved his to 1:37.57, while Conor Sweeney and Will Freeman recorded B-cut times of 1:35.57 and 1:37.98, respectively. Freeman already has an A-cut time in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

Nic Fink, who already is automatically qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke, improved his B-cut time in the 50-yard freestyle to 20.17. Matias Koski, who is going in the 500-yard freestyle, upped his B cuts in the 100-yard butterfly to 48.15 and in the100-yard backstroke to 48.11.

Other Bulldogs improving their B-cut standings included Garrett Powell in the 500-yard freestyle (4:20.38), Ty Stewart in the 100-yard butterfly (47.66) and the 100-yard backstroke (47.68), Derek Onken in the 400-yard individual medley (3:48.43) and Matt Ellis in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.94).

In a time trial, the Lady Bulldogs’ Courtney Peters posted a B-cut time of 1:56.74 in the 200-yard butterfly. Also, the Lady Bulldogs upping their B-cut standings were Brittany MacLean in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.66), Kelsey Gaid in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.91), Meghan Faulkner in the 400-yard individual medley (4:14.01), Lauren Harrington in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.16) and Megan Molnar in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.74).

The Bulldog Last Chance Meet will conclude on Sunday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m. There is no cost for admission.
