NCAA Women’s Tennis: Fuller and Garcia Ranked No. 1 in Doubles

Georgia’s top doubles tandem of Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia are ranked No. 1 in the latest doubles rankings released Tuesday by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Fuller and Garcia are 19-1 in dual matches this season, having beaten four Top-10 opponents. They have won six matches in a row. Fuller is also ranked No. 42 with sophomore Lauren Herring.

Herring and Maho Kowase, the Bulldogs’ No. 2 doubles pairing, are ranked No. 62 in the latest rankings. They’re 9-1 this year wth three wins over ranked opponents. Kowase is also ranked No. 61 in doubles with teammate Lilly Kimbell.

In singles, Herring headlines three ranked Bulldogs at No. 6. Herring, who sports a 33-5 record this year, is 20-4 versus ranked opponents and is riding a six-match winning streak.

Kowase, this week’s SEC Player of the Week, improved six sports to the No. 13 position. She capped a perfect 12-0 conference singles slate this past weekend.

Garcia, who is 20-7 this year, is ranked No. 89.

Georgia improved to No. 3 in the latest team rankings.

Georgia travels to Starkville, Miss. this week for the 2013 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament. The top-seeded Bulldogs will play the winner of Ole Miss and South Carolina on Friday morning at 9 a.m. ET at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
