NCAA Women’s Tennis: Four Bulldogs Garner All-SEC Honors

Four members of the Georgia women’s tennis team were named to the All-Southeastern Conference team, the league office announced today.

Sophomore Lauren Herring and junior Maho Kowase were named to the All-SEC First Team, and junior Kate Fuller and freshman Silvia Garcia were named to the All-SEC Second Team. Garcia was also named to the conference’s All-Freshman Team.

Herring, who is ranked sixth in the country, is 35-5 this season and has seven wins versus Top-30 opponents. This is her second consecutive season being named to the All-SEC First Team. Kowase, the 13th ranked singles player in the nation, is 35-8 on the year. She went an SEC best 12-0 during the SEC regular season. Kowase also clinched eight matches for the Bulldogs. She has now been named to the All-SEC First Team three times.

Fuller is sporting a 28-7 record and is tied for the most SEC regular season wins at the No. 4 position. With Garcia, she’s gone 20-2 to become the country’s top-ranked doubles tandem. Fuller has now garnered All-SEC honors for three consecutive years. Garcia is 22-3 since enrolling in January and has the most singles wins this year among SEC freshman. The Madrid, Spain, native was also named to the All-Freshman team.

The Bulldogs won their ninth regular season championship this season and finished runner-up at last weekend’s SEC Tournament.

Georgia awaits its seeding for the 2013 NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be held on April 30 at 5:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. Georgia will likely host the first and second rounds which will take place May 10-12, but campus sites have not yet been announced.
