Georgia junior David Andrews has been named to the Rimington Trophy’s 2013 Spring Watch List, according to an announcement on Tuesday.
Andrews, a 6-2, 295-pound native of Johns Creek, is one of 44 players included on the list for the award given annually to the nation’s most outstanding center in NCAA Division I-A college football. Andrews is one of nine players from the Southeastern Conference named to the list.
Starting all 14 games at center in 2012, Jones anchored an offensive line that enabled the Bulldogs to score a school record 529 points, which equaled a school record 37.8 points per game. The Bulldogs posted only the third 12-win season in Georgia history thanks to the offensive output.
Andrews received the Leon Farmer Award for dedication to the strength and conditioning program and the Coaches’ Leadership Award last year. He was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week following the Auburn game in 2012 after grading out at 88 percent with six “dominator” blocks and three knockdowns.
Dave Rimington, the award’s namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the Outland Trophy’s only double winner as the nation’s finest college interior lineman.
The Bulldogs open their 2013 season at Clemson on August 31 at 8 p.m. ABC will televise the match-up.
