Josh Harvey-Clemons appears to be drawn to dramatic events. The first incident occurred on National Signing Day, February 2012, when his grandfather refused to sign his letter of intent setting off a media frenzy for 36 hours before the issue was resolved by the Georgia staff.

The second event happened the night of June 22, 2012 when Harvey-Clemons, along with several other teammates, went for a ride with star running back Isaiah Crowell. Police stopped the car and found a gun under the drivers seat, Crowell was booked into the Athens-Clarke county jail on three charges, two of them felonies. Although the charges were subsequently dismissed, the SEC Freshman Of The Year transferred to Alabama State to finish his collegiate career.

Around 11:30 pm on May 15th a dorm assistant detected an odor of marijuana coming from a room and called police. Josh Harvey-Clemons and Ty Flournoy-Smith both admitted to smoking a “blunt” (a cigar laced with pot) in the room. There was not enough physical evidence to charge either player but Flournoy-Smith has transferred to Georgia Military College for at least a year. Coach Mark Richt left the door open to a possible return if he remains out of any future trouble and maintains his grades.

Harvey-Clemons was signed out of Lowndes County High School as a five star recruit and has impressed the staff with his size and natural ability. He received the Most Valuable Player award this past spring for the defense. Coach Todd Grantham, when asked earlier this year about the position that Harvey-Clemons would play stated, “I don’t know for sure where he’ll fit the best, but he’ll be on the field somewhere.”

If Harvey-Clemons is at the Clemson game, he’s going to need a ticket, Georgia athletic officials and the coaching staff are in Destin, Florida this week for the annual SEC meeting, coach Richt’s only statement on the incident was to confirm that Harvey-Clemons would be suspended for the Clemson game in accordance with UGA policy.
