The ninth-ranked Georgia football team began preparations for this week’s matchup with No. 6 LSU by holding a one-hour session in full pads on the Woodruff Practice Fields on Monday.

The Bulldogs are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC, while the Tigers are 4-0 and 1-0.

Saturday’s game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised by CBS. Also, ESPN College GameDay will broadcast from Athens starting at 9 a.m.

“We went in full pads today because I felt like we needed to scrimmage a little bit,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “So that’s what we did, and it was good. The boys got a little better today. … I was pleased with our intensity and our focus. We know we’re facing a great opponent this week, and we need to continue to have solid practices.”

Richt said the captains for Saturday’s game will be tailback Todd Gurley on offense, end Garrison Smith and cornerback Damian Swann on defense, and linebacker Kosta Vavlas on special teams.

In other news on Monday:

• CBS has elected to use a six-day selection for the games of Oct. 5, including Georgia at Tennessee. That contest will be at 3:30 p.m. on CBS or 7 p.m. on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. CBS is expected to make its selection no later than Sunday afternoon.
