Georgia Recruiting Rumors: 4-star Maryland transfer close to commitment

Exploring Georgia recruiting rumors is always good for some interesting water cooler talk, and this one is no exception.

Former Rivals four star basketball recruit Charles Mitchell is rumored to have visits to Georgia and Georgia Tech scheduled for this week. The 6’ 8” 250 pound power forward is transferring from Maryland to be closer to home.

Georgia offered Mitchell as a senior at Wheeler High School, but the Bulldogs were never in serious contention for his services. However, the addition of Jonas Hayes and Yasir Rosemond as assistant basketball coaches at Georgia may have changed Mitchell’s view of the program. Also, if Mitchell hopes to receive an NCAA waiver allowing him to play during the 2014 – 2105 season, he must transfer to a school close to home. Both Georgia and Georgia Tech fit that bill.

Mitchell’s numbers at Maryland are not glamorous – 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds a game in 18 minutes a game his sophomore season. However, at Georgia, Mitchell could be an immediate starter. The Bulldogs return four starters and eight of the top nine players off of last years squad. With Marcus Thornton and Nemi Djurisic  the only returning post players, Mitchell’s impact on the Bulldog roster could be enormous.
