After Thursday’s 7-on-7 football camp, Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt made a scholarship offer to inside linebacker prospect Montavious Atkinson (Fairburn, Ga., Langston Hughes HS), who has been committed to Auburn since March 16.

Atkinson, a 3-star prospect who is the No. 28 inside linebacker in the nation and the No.71 player in the state of Georgia according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, grew up a Bulldogs fan and was surprised to get the offer, according to a story in Al.com.

“It was surprising,” said Atkinson. “I didn’t know I’d get offered, even though I was balling out the whole day.

“I’m still solid to Auburn, but Georgia opened my eyes a little. That’s a team I’ve been watching.”

Atkinson reportedly was the biggest standout performer at the camp, and made a big impression on Truitt with his intensity.

“He was telling me how much he liked how I made plays and my physicality,” Atkinson said. “He said ‘You have a full scholarship and I want you to be a Dawg.’

“That kind of caught me off guard because I didn’t know about it. I didn’t know it was coming. But after they told me about it, I felt excited because I grew up as a Georgia fan and I never thought that I would have that offer and Georgia would be somewhere I could go to.”

So could this offer cause Atkinson to waver and possibly flip his commitment?

“I can’t really say too much,” he said. “I can look into it, but I can’t really say too much.

“I mean, it was a great feeling just to have the offer. But I can’t really say too much. War Eagle, so … It doesn’t affect my commitment that much at all. I can look into it. I’m still going to look around and weigh my options, but I’m committed to Auburn.”

So it’s probably safe to say that Atkinson is still a solid verbal to Auburn, but has Georgia on his mind.

Cue the Redcoat Band, fellas.
