UGA alternate logo, 1964-present

The Standing Bulldog

Introduced in 1964, this was one of Georgia’s first alternate logos. It can still be found on many items today and is easily recognizable as UGAs own with the deep red sweater and block “G”. A fan favorite that has endured.

I’ll open this discussion up. I voted for the traditional Uga head. It’s the first memory I have of watching Georgia football in terms of seeing a “logo”, and it’s a timeless design. I usually like less detailed logos, but that one has always grabbed me.

Point of order: not exactly a copy of Green Bay. http://www.georgiadogs.com/ot/geo-traditions.html

Power G all the way. Go Dawgs!

Well, if you read deep into it, Dooley did call the Packers and ask for permission since the original Georgia “G” was so similar in design to the Packers. Over the years, UGA’s evolved and Green Bay followed, but in truth they were still first with the enlongated oval “G”

True. However, living up in the tundra of Michigan, I have received questions asking why UGA just flat out copied Green Bay’s G. Green Bay used a version of it first, but it was different and then evolved closer to UGA’s G. So, no, UGA doesn’t owe Green Bay any money, and they can proudly call it their own. It seems to make it “less” if it’s only about the borrowing. You know what I mean?
