Hoops transfer Charles Mitchell rejects Georgia Basketball

Georgia Bulldog basketball fans have been compared to Charlie Brown. Once again the football has been pulled away at the last minute and Georgia fans have landed on their backs.

After two weeks of speculation that Charles Mitchell would transfer to the University of Georgia to play for Coach Mark Fox, Mitchell has committed to play basketball for Georgia Tech. The 6’8” 250-pound power forward spent the last two years playing for Maryland. He is a former Rivals 4-star recruit from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga.

The Bulldogs return four starters and eight of the top nine players off a team that won 20 games last year and optimism remains high. But with Marcus Thornton and Nemi Djurisic the only returning post players, the missing piece to the roster puzzle was a solid post contributor.

The Bulldogs will not be without options in the post this season with freshman Yante Maten and Fred Iduwe joining the team. Maten was recruited by Michigan State and Indiana and informal reports suggest Maten is at least as good as expected. For the future, the Bulldogs will focus on class of 2015 four star Rivals recruit Daniel Giddens and five star Rivals recruit Doral Moore. Giddens will announce his commitment on July 4. Signing either of these two elite post players would certainly ease the sting of losing Mitchell.
