In April, it was reported by CBS sports and other media outlets that talks had begun between the two schools, but that no deal had been finalized. But the chatter about this becoming a reality was exciting talk, and many fans wanted to see it happen.

Here is a segment from the April CBS Sports article:

"Georgia and Notre Dame are working to finalize a home-and-home series, according to a source, possibly for 2018-19.Notre Dame’s last SEC regular-season game was a 41-21 victory against Tennessee in 2005.When reached Tuesday, Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity acknowledged verbal communication with Notre Dame about a potential series but stressed there’s no agreement in writing and, thus, no reason to get too excited.McGarity added Georgia is always talking with schools about scheduling. When asked about the 2018-19 dates, McGarity said meetings for later this decade have been discussed.“I think it’d be great for the University of Georgia if we were able to make it happen,” McGarity said."

This morning, Buck Belue — the UGA quarterback who beat Notre Dame in the 1981 Sugar Bowl to give the Bulldogs a National Championship — tweeted that the deal may indeed be done.

Belue currently works as a host for Atlanta’s 680 The Fan, and is one of the station’s top sources for inside UGA news.

This would be a tremendous opportunity for a high-profile game for both schools, and would be a strength of schedule boost as well. Georgia had several non-conference opponents that were slated for coming years end up being cancelled due to the changes in conference scheduling in not only the SEC, but other major conferences as well.

We’ll sit tight over the next day or two and see when and if this big announcement happens.
