UGA’s Sanford Stadium ranked among best in college football

So far UGA is getting a lot of positive vibes from the NFL.com CFB 24/7 series titled “14 for ’14”, ranking the best of college football coaches, players, venues and just about everything else. This week, Sanford Stadium was on their list of Best College Football Stadiums.

More from Georgia Football

Sanford is not a surprising entry on the list, although where NFL.com’s Bryan Fischer has ranked the hallowed Georgia grounds may seem a little low, coming in at number nine.

Here’s Fischer’s assessment of life Between the Hedges:

"There are few places quite like Athens on a college football Saturday when the Bulldogs are at home. Watching a game between the hedges is a sight to behold from the sundresses to the shrubbery to the mausoleum with all of the former mascots. There are bigger and louder venues around the country but if you soak it all in at Sanford, you won’t leave disappointed."

The “bigger and louder” thing seems to be a resonating topic among anyone who is spending time ranking college football venues. In chatting with Bleacher Report lead SEC writer Barrett Sallee, he had this to say when I asked him why he had given Sanford Stadium such a low ranking among SEC venues.

Perhaps 2014 should be a year when fans concentrate on showing up, getting loud and making sure that Sanford Stadium is known for more than just pastoral surroundings and pretty statues.
