The FWAA has unveiled its 2014 preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and three Georgia linebackers have been named to the list.

UGA linebackers Leonard Floyd, Jordan Jenkins and Ramik Wilson were named to the Nagurski watch list, the award that goes to the Defensive Player of the Year.

The same trio of linebackers was named to the Bednarik Award watch list earlier this week. However, once again the other star linebacker for the Dawgs, Amarlo Herrera, was omitted from the list. It would be something to see Herrera step up and win both awards, although his name will almost certainly be added to the list as the season progresses. The FWAA chooses a Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week throughout the season, and if a chosen player is not already on the watch list, they will be added at that time

A total of 81 players were named to the Naguski watch list, and Georgia was one of 12 schools who had at least three players on the list. Stanford and Washington led all schools with four players each.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner will be chosen from those five finalists who are part of the 2014 FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the association’s entire membership, selects the 26-man All-America Team and eventually the Nagurski finalists. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner, the best defensive player in America.
