Friday tour of Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall Sports Museum

This should be the start of any weekend football excursion to Athens, but you’ll need to make it early on Friday to fit this one in.

Visitors get a glimpse of the greatest moments Georgia sports history, including Herschel Walker’s Heisman trophy and lots of other UGA memorabilia.

One of the highlights is the Dooley Sculpture Garden, adjacent to the Butts-Mehre Building, which contains 11 distinct garden areas and is about the length of a football field.

If you want to get a real feel for the history of Georgia’s sports, both men’s and women’s, then the Butts-Mehre museum has to be on your bucket list. Once you see it, you’ll want to come back again every time you are in town.

This has become a must-see attraction in Athens, and every Georgia fan owes it to themselves to visit and soak in all the sports tradition and grandeur that has graced the University of Georgia.
