Kirk Herbstreit ranks UGA No. 1, Bulldog Nation stunned

It’s no secret that the Bulldog Nation is of the opinion that ESPN, and analyst Kirk Herbstreit in particular, has it in for UGA when it comes to football.

Warranted or not, fans of the Georgia Bulldogs feel like they don’t get a fare shake from the four-letter network, and that Herbstreit rarely (if ever) has anything nice to say about the Dawgs.

Well, the Bulldog Nation is in stunned silence today, as Herbstreit has come forth and proclaimed that Georgia is the best team in the nation after their convincing 45-21 thumping of the No. 16 Clemson Tigers this past week.

But note that even in giving Georgia some due credit, Herbsteit still managed to attach a caviat, correcting the tweet from ESPN’s College GameDay which had originally stated that this was his projected CFB Playoff teams.

Oh well, I guess we’ll take what we can get.

On the flip side, Georgia head coach Mark Richt is pumping the brakes on any premature lifting of trophies for the Bulldogs, as he doesn’t want all this national attention to take away from the work at hand.

“I don’t know how good we are, quite frankly,” Richt said in Sunday’s SEC teleconference.  “We had a good performance.  We had one good game.  And even in that game, there were things that just need to be corrected.  I’m not going to get too excited yet.  We have a long way to go.”

Georgia is also now at the top of the ESPN favorites to win the SEC…not just the East, but the entire conference, giving them a 30.4 percent chance to win the SEC in their latest Power Index.
