With stellar play this summer on the travel circuit, Beasley went from local commodity to national prize. Georgia was the odds on favorite to receive his signature, but when offers came in from Maryland, St. Johns, UCLA, UCONN and VCU, Georgia fans became concerned.

Beasley’s first official visit was to FSU this weekend and he pulled the trigger for the Seminoles.

Beasley was on the Georgia campus this last weekend and has a Georgia official visit scheduled. Georgia’s primary competition in Beasley’s recruitment was thought to be St. Johns.

With Will Jackson (SG, 6-4, 175, Athens, Athens Christian School) firmly committed and with Georgia likely to feature two returning seniors and two returning juniors in the 2016 backcourt, the loss of Beasley stings, but is hardly crippling. However, Georgia had spent quite a bit of time and effort recruiting Beasley and his loss will sting for a while.

Georgia will likely try to recruit two post players for 2015 rather than turn to another guard recruit. Georgia is also the odds on favorite to sign SF Tevin Mack (SF 6’7″, 215, Columbia, SC, Dreher High), a position of greater need due to the untimely departure of Brandon Morris, and is competing for Jaylen Brown’s (SF, 6’7”, 215, Marietta, Wheeler High) services.

Also this week, Hannif Cheatham committed to Marquette. While Georgia recruited Cheatham, he never visited Athens and the Dawgs had faded as a seriously player for his commitment.

Stayed tuned. It’s commitment season and things will only get more interesting.
