Yet another Georgia Bulldogs DB dismissed from team

In what has to be one of the most bizarre seasons for a select group of defenders, Georgia Bulldogs freshman defensive back Shaquille Jones was dismissed from the team on Sunday following an arrest, per a report from Dawgs247.com.

Maybe its time we all just keep this story published and changed the names week by week.

Head coach Mark Richt did not give a reason for Jones’ dismissal, stating:

"“We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players. When those expectations and standards are not met, the opportunity to be a part of our program is sacrificed.”"

However, a log from the Athens-Clark County jail shows that a Shaquille Jones from Merritt Island, Fla. (from where the UGA player hails) was arrested on Sunday afternoon by Athens-Clarke County police on a misdemeanor charge of theft by shoplifting, and then made a $1,500 bond at 4:53 p.m.

This would likely be the explanation for Jones’ dismissal if it is indeed the same person.

So lets take a head count of cornerbacks and safeties who have left the Georgia program since the end of last season.

  • S Josh Harvey-Clemons – Dismissed
  • S Tray Matthews – Dismissed
  • CB Shaq Wiggins – Transferred
  • S Shattle Fenteng – Out for season w/shoulder injury
  • CB Sheldon Dawson – Dismissed
  • CB Rico Johnson – Medical DQ
  • CB Shaq Jones – Dismissed

That’s seven different players just from the defensive secondary who have been lost for an entire season for one reason or another, three of them being former starters on the team prior to this season.

If this keeps up, the Bulldogs will have the entire wide receiver corps playing iron man football.
