Damian Swann and Nick Chubb take SEC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors

The open date couldn’t have come at a better time for the Georgia football team. The Dawgs are exhausted from carrying home weekly SEC awards.

More from Georgia Football

This week,

Damian Swann

joined the party, earning the SEC Defensive Player of the Week Award, joining true freshman and weekly award collecting veteran

Nick Chubb,

who claimed the SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor. The honors  follow the Bulldogs’ 45-32 win at Arkansas.

This is Swann’s career first SEC Defensive Player of the Week award and Chubb’s first  SEC Offensive Player of the Week award. Chubb was the SEC Freshman of the Week the two previous weeks. Chubb is also the Athlon Sports’ National Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time

These are the seventh and eighth SEC weekly awards this season for the Bulldogs.  Junior tailback Todd Gurley was the Offensive Player of the Week twice (Clemson, Tennessee), senior inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera (Clemson) and Swann (Arkansas) have each been named the Defensive Player of the Week once and freshman tailback Sony Michel has also been named the Freshman Player of the Week (Troy) in addition to Chubb’s three honors.

Swann started the 34th game of his career and finished with a career-high 11 tackles, including a sack, and forced two fumbles.  The Atlanta native also had his second interception in as many games during Georgia’s win over the Razorbacks.

Thanks in part to Swann’s efforts this season, Georgia is leading the nation with a +13 turnover margin.

A true freshman from Cedartown, Ga., Chubb started his second game in place of Todd Gurley and ran 30 times for a career-high 202 yards (6.7 avg.) and a career-high two touchdowns.  With Hutson Mason picking apart the Arkansas defense with passes on nine of Georgia’s first 13 plays for 106 yards, Chubb ran 12 times in the half for 127 yards (10.6 avg.) and two scores, leading Georgia to a 38-6 halftime advantage.  Chubb joins Bulldogs Herschel Walker, Charles Trippi, Kevin McLee, Lars Tate, Rodney Hampton, Garrison Hearst and Verron Haynes in the  Double Century Club.
