Georgia lost former Cal offensive line commitment Nick Buchanan to the Florida Gators this afternoon.

Georgia hoped to shore up the 2015 offensive line class with a late commitment from Dunwoody High School’s Nick Buchanan. But Buchanan chose the University of Florida as his home away from home for the next four years.

The door for Georgia opened for former Cal Commit Nick Buchanan Monday evening.

Former offensive lineman from Dunwoody would have been the perfect late addition to shore up a Georgia class light in the big ugly department.

The 6’4”, 280-pound offensive lineman received offers from Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Penn State within the last few weeks. Buchanan took an official visits to Georgia and Florida.

On Monday he told Michael Carvell of the AJC.com “It’s basically like mind versus heart. My mind wants me to go to Georgia, but my gut tells me to go to Florida.”

The gut won out as the Gators got the big man’s signature this afternoon.

Cal recruiting reporter for SBNation Avinash Kunnath sees the flip to Florida as a huge loss for Cal. “Of all the offensive linemen we got to commit to Cal, Nick Buchanan was the one who had plenty of upside and had a great shot of seeing the field sooner rather than later.

For Florida, the flip will help soothe the wounds from its own National Signing Day disappointments.
