Thomas Davis was a standout, hard-hitting safety while with the Bulldogs, and he’s continued his excellent play in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers, garnering him Walter Payton Man of the Year honors in 2015.

Thomas Davis was awarded the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year in January, and was just the first active player to announce a team’s first-round draft pick, sharing the news of the Carolina Panthers’ selection of OLB Shaq Thompson out of Washington with the 25th overall pick.

Prior to the draft, Davis spoke about this honor to The Charlotte Observer.

“I’m excited. This is a huge honor. I’m going to really enjoy the moment,” Davis told the Panthers’ website. “I know the NFL has done some things in the past where they’ve had guys announce a third or fourth-round pick, but a player getting to announce the first-round pick is pretty special.”

This is a tremendous honor for Davis, who has overcome several major injuries during his NFL career to continue being one of the top defensive players in the league. He has been with the Panthers since being the 14th overall pick by the Panthers in the 2005 NFL Draft.
