The University of Georgia has a running back who wears the number 27. Those who are fans of the “boys in Athens”, followers of other teams, or just supporters of college football in general, know the number well and the man who fills the jersey. When one hears the name Nick Chubb, there is no explanation needed. This is a result of an unknown boy becoming a man during the 2014 season as he thrust his way onto the scene to become a household name in the world of college football. Now that man is on the 2015  Pre-Season Maxwell Award Watch List.

The Cedartown, Georgia, native rushed for some 1547 yards on 219 attempts along with 14 touchdowns on the ground last season. He also added 213 more yards on 18 receptions and 2 touchdowns from the air. Chubb compiled these enormous numbers despite opening the season as a Georgia Bulldogs backup running back.

He stepped up to the plate to produce the aforementioned stats after star running back Todd Gurley encountered some off the field troubles and after tearing his ACL. Many have pondered, and one can only wonder, if Chubb had been the main back during his freshman season if he would have broken the Georgia’s all-time season rushing record of Herschel Walker.

In any event, TG3 is now a member of the St. Louis Rams in the NFL and Nick Chubb will be the primary runner from the backfield “Between The Hedges” in 2015. He is a legitimate candidate to win the Heisman Trophy in 2015 with Bovada putting his odds to win the coveted award at 9/1 as of July 1. While all of the Heisman talk surrounding Nick Chubb floats about, there will now be more talk of the Dawg’s back with another possible award since the release of the 2015 Pre-Season Maxwell Award Watch List Tuesday morning. Chubb is the lone University of Georgia football player named to the list.

In 2015, the Maxwell Award will be presented for the 79th time to the nation’s top NCAA player. Maxwell Award winners of the recent past include players such as Marcus Mariota, Andrew Luck, and Cam Newton. The winner of the 2015 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 10, 2015.

Given that #27 has a monstrous season in 2015, he may bring home both the Heisman Trophy as well as the Maxwell Award. Chubb definitely has the athletic ability and capacity to win both of the illustrious awards. Don’t believe me? Check out Nick Chubb’s 2014 season highlight video below and decide for yourself.
