Former Georgia football star and Detroit Lion’s starting quarterback Matthew Stafford had good things to say about Eason on Friday.

Stafford was one of the best signal-callers to ever come through Athens, Ga. The Highland Park, Texas, native was one of the most highly-touted prospects in the country that year, and one of the most hyped players UGA has gotten in recent memory. He was lured to Georgia in hopes of thriving in the Bulldogs’ pro-style offense.

And thrive he did. In his three seasons at UGA, Stafford passed for 7,731 yards (which ranked third at the time in school history).

So when the former No. 1 NFL Draft pick talks about quarterbacks, people tend to listen. Stafford came back to the University of Georgia on Friday to take part as a speaker in Kirby Smart’s coaching clinic. He was interviewed by the media and was asked about early-enrollee Jacob Eason, whose background is eerily similar to Stafford’s.

“He’s a super-talented kid. As far as the comparisons go, everybody is their own player. I’m sure he’s bigger than I am, can throw it farther than I can. But I’m just happy for him to get an opportunity to play here. It’s a special place to play,” said Stafford according to 247 Sports.

Similar is right. Eason played high school ball away from the Southeast (Lake Stevens, Wash.) just like Stafford and is also the most hyped Georgia quarterback signee since him (#1 QB according to ESPN.com). He also enrolled early at UGA similarly to Stafford.

He’s a super-talented kid.

Stafford went further in talking positively about Eason. “It looks like he has a bunch of talent. That’s what everybody says. Obviously he was a very highly-recruited kid. It’s a lot of fun coming from a long ways away and kind of immersing myself in Georgia and the culture and all that. I’m sure he’s going to have a good time doing it. I look forward to watching him play today. We’ll see. But I’m excited for him.”

Jacob Eason comes into Athens with enormous hype, expectations and pressure on his shoulders. No one is completely sure if Eason can live up to the billing, but high praise from a former No.1 NFL Draft pick cannot be a bad thing.
