Spring practice is in the books, and UGA head coach Kirby Smart has to feel better about his wide receiver position.

It wasn’t that long ago that UGA’s wide receiver position was loaded and one of the strengths of the team. That has changed.

UGA didn’t seem that concerned with recruiting receivers over the last few years, and the one’s they did go after mostly never seemed to pan out. The wide receiver depth has been a concern in the offseason but, based on the spring game, seems to be in better shape.

One of the most improved players this spring is sophomore wide receiver Jayson Stanley. The Fairburn, Ga., native had only two receptions in 2015 as his playing time was obviously very limited. Stanley has stood out this spring and even received an award for his improvement.

Stanley finished off his solid spring by leading UGA in receiving in the G-Day Game. He had four catches for 87 yards according to 247 Sports. Fellow receivers Isaiah McKenzie, Reggie Davis, Michael Chigbu, and Terry Godwin looked solid in the spring game as well.

More from Georgia Bulldogs News

Godwin is looked to as the No. 1 receiver on UGA’s roster after a good rookie year in 2015 capped off by an MVP performance in the Taxslayer Bowl. Reggie Davis, although inconsistent, has proven to be an outstanding athlete and a deep threat. Isaiah McKenzie a.k.a. the Human Joystick is not only a dangerous kick returner but also is a weapon as a slot receiver (though he was never utilized like he could have been in 2015).

Freshman early enrollee Riley Ridley appears solid as well. The addition of Mecole Hardman in the fall will only help the receiving corps and add a deep threat and more speed on the outside. Many Georgia fans are also hoping that the nation’s top wideout Demetris Robertson will sign with the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Overall, Georgia fans should feel better about the receivers on their team after spring practice. Hopefully, the position will be in better hands this fall than it was in 2015.
