Georgia Football fans should feel just fine about the state of their running back position headed into Week 1.

It definitely was an issue earlier in the offseason. Star running back Nick Chubb was still recovering from a horrible season-ending injury he had suffered mid-way through the 2015 campaign. Then, in early July, Sony Michel broke his left forearm in an ATV accident.

Georgia fans were certainly panicking at this point and for good reason. Who would be available for Week 1 was a burning question on the minds of everyone around the Georgia Football program.

But Nick Chubb seemed to be recovering well, and it seems very likely that Chubb will be healthy by the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game vs. North Carolina, although Kirby Smart is still trying to downplay his availability for the first game. Sony Michel’s health status is still a bit of a mystery, but it looks like he will return sooner rather than later, and he hasn’t been ruled out of the North Carolina game.

Freshman newcomer Elijah Holyfield has a good chance to have a breakout first year in the SEC. The son of famous boxer Evander Holyfield has drawn high praise in camp particularly by his backfield mate Chubb.  The Atlanta, Ga., native was a 4-star prospect and the No. 6 running back in the country according to 247 Sports coming out of high school.

Holyfield is a very balanced back who is fast, athletic and powerful. He could be the next star running back in the SEC. Brian Herrien also signed with Georgia in the Class of 2016, and he is certainly talented but is young. Redshirt freshman Tae Crowder, senior power back Brendan Douglas and others return to add key depth.

To sum things up, Georgia really had a problem at running back earlier this offseason due to attrition, but it looks like the Dawgs will have everyone available for the first game except maybe Sony Michel. This is definitely an encouraging sign not only for the opening game (during which the run game will be a huge emphasis) but also going forward.
