When Georgia squares off with Nicholls State Saturday, a majority of the crowd will be in red and black. However, the Georgia Athletic Association would rather you support Nicholls State. At least in one respect.

In case someone has been living under a rock, floods have decimated Louisiana this summer. The August floods that ravaged the state have caused widespread damage and destruction. The massive rainfall has left 13 dead and thousands homeless throughout the state.

The flooding has gained national attention, and the affected areas have been visited by U.S. President Barack Obama and Presidential Nominee Donald Trump.

Aid has been raised nationwide to support the victims. In response to the flood, Nicholls State University has set up a relief fund to support its students. The fund was created to “help affected students cover unexpected costs or replace necessities lost in the storm (such as books, clothing, residence halls items, etc.)”

In a tweet, the Georgia Athletic Association urges the Bulldog Nation to support the fund.

This effort is not the first time Georgia has actively supported a cause of one of its football opponents.

Last year, Georgia fans donated thousands of dollars to support Devon Gales. The Southern University wide receiver was severely paralyzed against the Bulldogs and spent months in Atlanta’s Shepherd Center in recovery.

The UGA Athletic Association has partnered with the Triumph Over Tragedy Foundation with the goal of building the Gales family a new handicap accessible home.  However, the Gales family was also affected by the flood waters. The family was flown to Georgia to escape the danger, but their old home is considered a total loss.

According to the comments on Nicholls Relief page website, several Bulldog fans have already donated to the cause. Donors have already raised almost $8,000 of the fund’s $10,000 goal. The relief page states that donations that exceed the $10,000 mark will be kept in the fund for student use.
