Rico McGraw Transferring to Murray State

Sophomore cornerback Rico McGraw, who made a big impact for Georgia in his Freshman season has officially transferred away from UGA.

McGraw, who saw his playing time significantly reduced in 2016 after graduate transfer Maurice Smith arrived from Alabama, began classes at Murray State this month. He will now have the opportunity to play with his brother, tailback Mareio who was the Kentucky school’s leading rusher in the 2016 campaign.

Originally a 4 star recruit, McGraw won the starting Nickel role for the final 5 games of the 2015 season under former head coach Mark Richt but saw his role reduced dramatically after Kirby Smart arrived and brought Smith to Athens.

McGraw’s most memorable moment in 2016 was the 15 yard penalty he was flagged for at the end of the Tennessee game for excessive celebration. That penalty, alongside a botched special teams kick, gave the Vols an option of a Hail Mary which of course, they converted to stun the Dawgs after Jacob Eason’s pass to Riley Ridley should have won the game.

After that penalty and spending most of his season working with the second team, it was no surprise when Coach Smart informed the media that McGraw was one of three players who would transfer away from Athens after the season.
