Georgia football players have won numerous awards over the years, but one award that has alluded Bulldogs is the Davey O’Brien Award for most outstanding quarterback.

Georgia football quarterback Jacob Eason was recently named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch, which is awarded to the best quarterback in college football. Eason is very talented and has a cannon for an arm. He has all of the tools to win this award, but how can he do it?

1. The receivers must help.

The departure of Isaiah McKenzie will hurt the Dawgs but i don’t believe he’s irreplaceable. Eason made a lot of good passes last year that were dropped. The receiving corps was sub par. There has been a lot of chatter through the spring that this year’s receivers will be much better.

Eason will have targets like Isaac Nauta, Riley Ridley, Jayson Stanley, along with new comers like, Mark Webb, Trey Blount, and Jeremiah Holloman. With the talent at receiver, if they can beat the coverage, and cut down on the dropped passes, they could really help Eason to the O’Brien award.

2. Better offensive line play.

The offensive line last year was pretty bad. Although they improved as the season went, it wasn’t your typical UGA offensive line.

The 2017 recruiting class will get a chance to really make an impact early. They can step in and give Eason a little more time to throw in a clean pocket. Let’s not pretend that Eason wasn’t running around like crazy trying to avoid sacks. If the offensive line can give Eason that extra time to make his reads, they could be a big reason for his O’Brien award success.

3. Film study and better reads.

There were multiple times last season, I saw wide open receivers that Eason missed. He struggled with his reads at times last year, that could be due to a lack of film study. Rumors around Athens is that this isn’t the case anymore.

Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm has reportedly pushed Eason to be a film nerd. This could be a good thing. Eason has amazing arm talent. If his football I.Q. ever matches his arm, he’d be nearly unstoppable. More film study alone could propel Eason to the top and help him be named the best QB in college football.
