Georgia Football has secured a visit from one of the top defensive linemen in the 2018 class Josh Belk who is transferring from Clemson.

Kirby Smart never stop recruiting. With the Georgia Football team feeling a little light on defensive tackles, Smart is testing the water with a former top recruit. Josh Belk was a top 100 player in this past 2018 class. A big defensive tackle from South Carolina, Belk committed to Clemson and enrolled early.

Late last week, it was announced that Belk has decided to transfer. The original reports indicated that he wanted to be closer to home because a family member had become sick. That would likely mean that he would end up at South Carolina who are less than an hour from his home.

But Georgia seems to think that they have a shot here. Belk has agreed to visit UGA as well as SC this week. That’s good news for the Dawgs who are looking to build up some depth on their defensive line. Wherever Belk ends up, he will likely have to sit out the 2018 season because he’s a transfer. However, Kirby Smart would love to have a talent like this in the program and essentially redshirt him. Belk could have a huge impact wherever he lands next season.

We’ll see how this plays out. Georgia has available playing time for Belk if he decides to come to Athens. However, if this is really about his family, it’s hard to see him go anywhere else but SC. Athens is 3 hours away from his hometown and that would likely be too far for him. Still, the Dawgs have thrown themselves into this race and it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on.
