Georgia Football players spent their first of two days at Camp Sunshine yesterday.

Camp Sunshine means a lot to Kirby Smart. Years ago, his brother Karl was diagnosed with leukemia and camped there. After his recovery, he was a counselor and a regular visitor and Kirby has kept on coming. Chip Towers from Dawgnation.com wrote a great article yesterday about Smart’s relationship with the camp. He did so in response to the Georgia Football team making their most recent visit to the camp.

The Dawgs have long visited the camp as a team. Kirby Smart has arranged for this year’s version to come for two different days. The first of those was yesterday and according to Towers, half of the 70 players who signed up attended yesterday.

That included some high profile freshmen in Justin Fields, Zamir White, and Tyson Campbell. Other first-year players that were seen were Otis Reese and Tommy Bush. For many of these players, this is the first time that Dawg fans get to see these new players with their new numbers. Reese will wear number 17 vacated by Davin Bellamy and Campbell will inherit the #3 from Roquan Smith.

Interestingly DeAngelo Gibbs was also seen by some of the reporters who were there. Gibbs’ future is up in the air at the moment and he was reported to not be fully training with the team right now. His inclusion in this is a sign that hopefully, he’s going to be a part of the 2018 team.

Anyway, yesterday was a good day for the Dawgs. They got to get out of the grind of summer workouts and spend a day making memories for some truly brave kids. Those that enjoyed it will have one more chance to come later this summer.
