An open records request by numerous news outlets reveal that Dan Lanning has been promoted to defensive coordinator by Georgia football.

No surprises out of Athens with a recent open records request by several news outlets covering Georgia football. The request reveals what many already predicted, outside linebackers coach Dan Lanning is the new defensive coordinator. He also receives a $450,000 raise, increasing his salary to $750,000.

Lanning’s promotion was likely tipped to media much earlier though. Back during Sugar Bowl practices, Lanning represented the defense to reporters. The promotion makes him a  defensive coordinator for the first time in his career. Lanning also turned down former DC Mel Tucker’s offer to join him in Colorado. Lanning is one of the best young coaches in college football at just 32 years of age.

But he’s not exactly alone in the position. Inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann has been promoted to co-defensive coordinator. Another thing many media outlets had been predicting for the position since the season ended. Schumann’s promotion comes with a $325,000 raise, increasing his salary to $550,000. Schumann is even younger than Lanning at 28 years old.

Schumann coaches from the booth and Lanning coaches from the sideline. For both of them being first year coaches in their positions, the sharing of duties makes a lot of sense. They can use their unique perspective during games to bounce ideas off each other.

The new defensive coordinators weren’t the only coaches to receive raises as every coach on the staff received some pay raise. New offensive coordinator James Coley will now make $950,000 annually, he’s the highest paid assistant on the staff. Offensive line coach Sam Pittman, probably the best OL coach in the entire nation will earn a worthy salary of $900,000.

New tight ends coach Todd Hartley will earn $300,000 this year and $400,000 next year.
