Last season, Georgia’s basketball team struggled on both ends of the court and put together a very disappointing season. We take a look today at Anthony Edwards, that could help this program sooner than later.

Georgia basketball had its ups and downs under one of Tom Crean, but maybe 2019 will have more positives than negatives.

Crean, headed into his second season with the Dawgs has already made a splash thanks to the killer recruiting class that he put together.  One of those players being Anthony Edwards.

We have all heard of the world-famous superhero Ant-Man who is brought to life by the creative minds of Marvel comic book creators, but the Ant-Man we are talking about today is on a whole other level.

In recent news, the Dawgs saw one of their top players in Nicolas Claxton to the NBA Draft leaving Georgia in search of someone to fill the role of Claxton’s playmaking ability.

The 6-foot 4, 210-pound 5-star shooting guard out of Georgia was by far the most significant addition to the impressive recruiting class Crean put together.

In high school, Edwards stacked up an impressive stat line averaging 24.6 points a game while shooting 51 percent from the field.

Those stats led him to hold the title of being a McDonald’s All-American and the No. 1 SG in the nation and No. 2 overall prospect.

Edwards is already impressing the UGA coaching staff as expected during the team’s summer program and is looking to be the player everyone hoped he would be.

Not only can Edwards shoot with the best of them, but he can also out jump most opponent.

Georgia’s coaching staff was quick to find that out when he was measured at a 42 inch vertical the other day at practice.

Ant-Man is currently being predicted as a future first-round pick in the 2020 NBA draft, will play alongside a mix of veteran players and Georgia’s young core of talent.

The Bulldog’s roster also contains forward, Rayshaun Hammonds who is also predicted by some to go first round in next years draft, young talented guard Tye Fagan, veteran guard Tyree Crump who is deadly from the three, and sophomore forward Amanze Ngumezi who improved last season as the season progressed.

All of those names go without mentioning the rest incoming talent that Crean was able to snag in the 2019 recruiting class.

Georgia by no means will be able to reach the goal of reaching the NCAA tournament next season by relying on one player, but there is no doubt that Edwards can help make some major strides for the basketball program.

Crean has been known for his development of players and ultimately getting them into the league. With the incredible abilities that Edwards withholds, he could build the foundation of Georgia becoming a hot spot for some of the Nation’s top talent.

Dawg fans have been itching to see Georgia basketball compete consistently for a spot in the NCAA Tournament and the players on Crean’s roster could very well be the turning point that we have all been waiting for.
