 Well my wife and I are already ‘Dancing With The Stars” fans.  Its a date night every season for us everytime it comes on.  So, we will have an extra special reason to watch this season, as one of our all time favorite Bulldawgs, Hines Ward, will be a contestant on the show.  The new line up for the new season was announced today, which includes Ward. Every season the show usually has at least one NFL player as a contestant, and they usually hang in there all the way until the finals.  Sometimes they even win, ala Emmitt Smith.  Well, since a damn ‘gator has won, it is only right that a ‘Dawg win one. 

 Hines defintely has the moves to do it.  He, probably bar none, has been one of the most versatile players in Georgia Football history, having played almost every offensive position,  including quarterback, and excelled in all.  He has been an incredible veteran receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who of course just recently won another Superbowl.

 For those of you who have never watched Dancing With The Stars, or have been just occasional visitors to the show, I urge you to watch it this season and vote for our very own ‘Hinesey Boy’ each and every time.  LETS GET HINES WARD THAT MIRROR BALL TROPHY!

After having practiced law for almost 34 years, I constantly am saying “I’ve seen it all!” And as often as I have made that incredulous statement, I have had to pull out the fork and knife; cut up my words; and eat them, as something new always follows that ignorant statement.

So, when I now say “Boy, I thought I had seen it all until I saw this,” the statement is definitely made tongue in cheek.  Apparently, at UGA, almost all the assistant football coaches have a “retention bonus” provision built into their contracts.  Is this bonus based upon performance?  Of course not, that makes way too much sense.  No, these bonus’ are based upon the assistant coaches ‘hanging around’ after the 2010-2011 season, without quitting or getting canned.

In the case of Mike Bobo, our Offensive Coordinator (for better or for worse, and you folks already know my opinion) he got a $30,000 bonus (as per his contract to be paid by February 28, 2011).  Had Coach Richt opted to look for another Offensive Coordinator after our disastrous 6-7 losing season (as I suspect most head coaches in the SEC would have done based upon the play calling we saw), no bonus would have been due.  However, since CMR elected to keep this part of the ‘family’ intact, it cost us an extra $30,000 for his wonderful job performance in 2010.  Is this not what one would call ‘adding insult to injury?’ (source: bleacherreport.com)

Truth be known, the problem here is not with Bobo, the problem is with the absolute jackass who wrote these contracts and in no way hinged these bonus’ on performance or minimum wins in the prior season.  Common sense tells us that the guy responsible for this is no longer with our university.  He’s too busy drinking and driving and having sex with hookers (apparently all at the same time).  Way to go Evans!  It is obvious from what we all learned with regard to your cheesy exit from the AD position, that the head you were using to think through all your decisions (both professional and personal) was not the one on your shoulders.

I would hope and expect that this lack of forethought in drawing up these contracts for the assistant coaches will not be repeated in the future by our new AD and CMR.
