1 Georgia position group in particular has Kirby Smart absolutely fired up

The 2024 season was not kind to the run game for Georgia, but Kirby Smart is ready to get back on track in 2025.

In 2024, the run game for the Georgia Bulldogs certainly did not match the type of run game that the Bulldogs are used to. Normally, Georgia has a great rushing attack on the ground, but last season, it just seemed like it was missing in action, and could have even been a reason for some of the offensive struggles.

In his lone season with the Bulldogs, Trevor Etienne was supposed to be the top rusher, but instead, it was freshman Nate Frazier. In the end, though, both running backs were only able to rush fr over 600 yards, and neither was able to reach double-digit touchdowns. During SEC Media Days, head coach Kirby Smart spoke at length about Georgia committing to improving the run game this next season, adn even seemed pretty fired up about the position group as a whole.

"As far as the running back room, I'm excited as hell about the running back room," Smart said at SEC Media Days. "I think we've got a good running back room, but we certainly lost a really good one."

When talking about the one they lost, Smart was referring to Etienne, who will be missed as he embarks on his NL journey, but for Frazier to take over and lead the running backs in rushing last season as a freshman is something Georgia fans can be excited about heading into the season.

Frazier, as a freshman, was pretty much thrown into the deep end and told to swim, and he proved he did with the snaps he took. As a freshman, Frazier ran for 671 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, which for a true freshman is pretty impressive.

The running back role seems to be Frazier's for the taking, and he doesn't look poised to let it go. Georgia landed Illinois transfer running back Josh McCray out of the portal this offseason as well, who should be a solid runner.

Both Frazier and McCray come in as two very different running backs, so Smart could have his pick of what type of pack to go with each snap. With other running backs in the mix as well, it seems Smart has every reason to be excited about the running back room this season.
