NFL rosters were trimmed down on Monday, and two former Georgia football stars were among the casualties as offensive tackle Xavier Truss and wide receiver Matt Landers were given their walking papers on Monday.

Truss was a two-year starter for the Bulldogs, playing primarily at right offensive tackle, while Landers started several games at wide receiver before transferring to Toledo and then back into the SEC with Arkansas for his senior year.

Xavier Truss played in over 60 games in his career at UGA

A highly touted four-star recruit out of Bishop Hendricken High School in Rhode Island, the 6'7" 330-pound Truss played at UGA from 2020-2024 and was a member of two National Championship teams in 2021 and 2022.

He played in 66 games for Georgia and was the starter at both right and left tackle for 42 games during his time between the hedges.

Truss had an up-and-down career at UGA and was an undrafted free agent landing in Denver.

The big offensive tackle was known more for his consistent run blocking with his massive frame and length, but he sometimes struggled in pass protection.

Matt Landers left many Georgia fans frustrated at what could have been

Landers has a prototypical wide receiver build and had speed to burn, but he was cut by the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, he never fully grasped the offensive playbook and route tree while in Athens.

Despite not starting or playing much at Georgia, his freak athleticism and enormous potential kept him around and got him a shot to turn things around at Arkansas, where he hauled in 47 catches for 901 yards and 8 touchdowns as a senior.

At 6'5" and 200 pounds, the Titans were hoping that the 23 year old receiver would be able to find a way to use his size and speed to latch on with the squad. That unfortunately did not work out as he now looks to land on the practice squad for the Titans or find a new home elsewhere.
