There are countless players that performed extremely well during Georgia football's 45-7 win over Marshall last weekend. That is the expectation whenever UGA plays a severely overmatched opponent like the Thundering Herd, but it is nice to see Georgia handle their business in every facet of the game.
One thing however that isn't guaranteed even against a team like Marshall is how Georgia's true freshman will perform. Most of UGA's freshman got a chance to play on Saturday, and a few of them made big plays that really stood out to Kirby Smart.
"Yeah, those kids have got a lot of growing up to do. I think, when you look across the board, each one of them got a little taste. The wideouts got some taste," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "I thought Talyn played an outstanding game at gunner, made a huge play on special teams. Elyiss worked on the scout team all week against our defense and has gotten better, and was able to make a play."
2 Georgia freshman have Kirby Smart's attention
Wide receiver Talyn Taylor was the first five-star receiver Georgia has brought to Athens in quite some time. That means expectations are sky high for him on the offensive side of the ball, but he unfortunately didn't get a chance to prove himself on offense on Saturday. He did however make one tackle while playing gunner on the punt team that impressed Smart.
Taylor could have hung his head and been upset that he wasn't getting time on offense, but he kept his head up and helped Georgia's punt team when his number was called. That shows Taylor has impressive character and a good head on his shoulders that will carry him throughout his career.
Tight end Elyiss Williams also came to Georgia this season with high expectations as he was a five-star recruit as well. Williams however did get a chance to shine on offense, and the one pass he caught he turned into a 23-yard touchdown. Williams is an athletic freak who is the biggest target available to Gunner Stockton on offense, so it would be wise for Georgia to give Williams a lot more snaps going forward.
These two freshmen have bright futures in front of them, but the fact that they are already making an impact on the team this early in their careers gives Georgia fans a glimpse of what's to come in the coming years.
