2 Georgia football rookies are on pace to make NFL history
Georgia football fans are used to seeing their players find a lot of success in the NFL. So whenever a former Bulldog has a big week in the NFL, it really isn’t that big of a deal.
But two Georgia rookies are having elite seasons so far this season, and they are on pace to do something that’s only been done in the NFL one other time.
Two players from same school leading rookies in receiving yards
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is the first Georgia rookie who is having an amazing season so far. Bowers has recorded 74 receptions for 744 yards this season with the Raiders. This includes three touchdown receptions as well, with two in his last three games.
Fellow Georgia rookie Ladd McConkey is having an equally impressive season with the Los Angeles Chargers. McConkey is right behind Bowers with 698 receiving yards on 49 receptions.
These receiving yard totals from Bowers and McConkey are currently No. 1 and No. 2 in the entire NFL among all rookies. And if that stat holds true for the rest of the season, they will be the second duo to do that from the same college in their rookie season, joining Ohio State’s Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson in 2022.
No Georgia fan is surprised to see Bowers performing this well, but McConkey is a bit of surprise. It’s not surprising to see him having a good season, but to be No. 2 in receiving yards out of all the rookies is very unexpected. But that just speaks to the development Georgia’s players receive at UGA under Kirby Smart.
So while we wait to see if Georgia is able to make a run in the College Football Playoff, this is something that all Georgia fans should pay close attention to. And hopefully in a few weeks we can celebrate Bowers and McConkey being the two leaders in receiving yards out of all NFL rookies.
