And the first day unofficial day of the 2010 SEC football season starts today. The four teams addressing the media today are Alabama and Mississippi State, who go first, followed by Florida and Kentucky. You can follow a live stream of the SEC Media Days here.
Nick Saban’s interview should not be dull considering the new developments and allegations brought against Marcell Dareus. If the NCAA eventually rules Dareus as ineligible, then Alabama will be missing even more from the 2010 National Championship defense. Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram (Preseason First Team), maligned (and undefeated) quarterback Greg McElroy (Preseason Second Team), and linebacker Dont’a Hightower (Preseason First Team) will accompany Saban in Birmingham.
More after the jump…
Mississippi State joins Alabama and it’s doubtful any of their players are high profile enought to be pestered by agents in the offseason. Still, it is Dan Mullen’s second year and he’s trying to get the Bulldogs bowl eligible by facing a very difficult schedule against almost every top team in the league. Quarterback Chris Relf, along with offensive lineman Quentin Saulsberry, and safety Charles William join Mullen.
Florida will be in the next group, and like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer has to address the recently developing agent situation. If Maurkice Pouncey is found guilty, Florida might have to vacate this past season’s Sugar Bowl win over Cincinnati. Regardless, there should be plenty of other questions for center Mike Pouncey (Preaseason First Team), defensive end Justin Trattou, and safety Ahmad Black (Preaseason Second Team). The Gators are the preseason favorite amongst almost every college football publication to win the SEC East.
Kentucky will join Florida in the second group of the day and should be relatively less exciting. However, Kentucky does have a new coach in Joker Phillips and they are coming off their best three year stretch in half a century. Running back Derrick Locke (Preseason Second Team), wide receiver Randall Cobb (Preseason First Team), and defensive end Dequin Evans.
