SEC Media Days — Preseason Media Vote
By Editorial Staff
Chip Towers of the AJC has posted the media vote for SEC Division Champions and the Conference Champions from SEC Media Days. Georgia garnered 15 SEC East first place votes and 2 SEC Championship votes. Not surprisingly, Alabama and Florida were the overwhelming favorites in their respective divisions and Alabama 143 of 177 votes to win the conference title.
Other things of note:
- Is Bianchi correct?
- UGA barely edged South Carolina for second in the East. Maybe Bianchi wasn’t so far off…sarcasm, of course.
- Tennessee vs UK
- Tennessee was picked 5th in the East behind Kentucky, regardless of the huge win streak.
- Doubting the Bayou Bengals
- LSU was picked 4th in the West behind Arkansas, and Auburn, even though LSU beat both Arkansas and Auburn last year and LSU was the only one of the three to finish conference play with a winning record. The Arkansas and Auburn hype continues.
- The Auburn Conundrum
- Auburn earned more SEC West first place votes than Arkansas, but finished 3rd in overall votes behind Arkansas by a rather large margin. That tells me one of two things. Either some media members are putting a lot of stock into Auburn’s large senior class and others are not or the media simply doesn’t know what to make of Auburn at this point.
- Does the media actually know?
- 2009: Project Divison Winners – Alabama and Florida
- 2009: Projected SECC –Florida (63) and Ole Miss (1)
- 2009: Actual Results – Alabama vs Florida in SECCG and Alabama wins.
