Green, Murray Shine in Dogs scrimmage…

The 2010 Georgia Bulldogs held an afternoon scrimmage at Sanford Stadium in full pads for the second time this camp. The result was a productive day all around that had coach Mark Richt singing the praises of his first units. A qoute from Richt in his after scrimmage media session:
"“Without question, the number one units whipped the number two units.” “That’s what you want to see, and our number two offense and defense were competing out there. It was a hot, humid day, probably the hottest and most humid of all our practices so far.”"
Some statistics from the scrimmage: Redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray was 12-for-21 for 237 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while true freshman Hutson Mason was 9-for-23 for 78 yards and one touchdown. Junior tailback Caleb King had 14 carries for 63 yards while sophomore Washaun Ealey ran for 66 yards on just five carries. Junior flanker A.J. Green Flashed his All-America credentials with five receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns(one of 63 yards and the other a 50 yarder) while junior Logan Gray had 2 catches for 45 yards. On the defensive side, senior linebacker Akeem Hebron led all tacklers with six while senior end DeMarcus Dobbs and junior safety Nick Williams had five apiece. Junior cornerback Brandon Boykin and true freshman safety Alec Ogletree notched interceptions.
Murray seemed relatively pleased with his performance but the redshirt freshman knows he has room to get better. “I know I have to continue to work hard, watch film and improve.” “Today, I felt comfortable in the pocket, I trusted the line, and I had time to throw. From watching film, I know I can trust the guys up front, and I don’t have to rush and can look down field. I did force a couple throws today trying to make plays, and I will learn from that.”
Richt’s evaluation of Murray was filled with positives: “He has a very good command of the system, he was getting us in the right plays, and overall, he’s done well.” “He did have one interception, and it was not a wise decision. He knows he doesn’t have to be a hero, and it’s all right to throw it out of bounds some times.” The INT that Richt spoke of came in the red zone and was picked off by freshman safety Alec Ogletree.
A.J. Green had praise for the freshman as well: “I thought he did really well.” “He was very confident, poised. He went through the reads pretty good. The balls he threw to me were good.”

Richt said defensive coordinator Todd Grantham “felt like there were a couple of big plays that were given up that wasn’t good, but overall, (he) thought they did a nice job.”
Murray and Green did all their damage with the No. 1 offense against the No. 2 defense.
“Our No. 1 defense did a fine job also against our No. 2 offense, so sometimes these statistics can be misleading,” Richt said.
Linebacker Darryl Gamble figured the first-team defense might have had about eight sacks, which Richt said could have been the case. The starting offensive line, however, provided outstanding protection, he said.
The sacks come as good news to most Dogs fans as the defense failed generate alot of pressure at times last year.
Cornerback Branden Smith’s “academic issues” kept him away from the scrimmage.Richt said he had no news on his future status with the team.
“I would just say I’ll tell you when I know,” Richt said. “I said it might be the end of the week, but it may be a little bit longer than that. I’d say end of the week or early next week, we’ll know.”
Offensive guard Cordy Glenn did not scrimmage because he “was not feeling good,” Richt said. Receiver Kris Durham did not practice after getting “dinged” in Monday’s practice. Linebacker Marcus Dowtin had a scooter accident that left him with scrapes, but Richt said it wasn’t a serious accident. Note to players: Please stay off the scooters!
Georgia already was missing receiver Rantavious Wooten (sprained knee), linebackers Akeem Dent (toe) and Richard Samuel (leg), safety Quintin Banks (knee) and defensive back Chad Gloer (hamstring).
Coaches held out offensive lineman Trinton Sturdivant (knee).
A mild ankle sprain to an unnamed player was the only new injury reported.
