GEORGIA FOOTBALL PROGRAM – SHAKESPEAREAN TRAGEDY

To coach, or not to coach: that is the question; whether tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged Dawg Fans one loss after another, Or to simply resign because you “suck” as a head coach and are drowning in a sea of troubles which has finally caught up with you, after you ran out of Jim Donnan’s recruits and lost the only coach on your staff, Brian VanGorder, that had a clue.

Yes, the state of affairs with the current UGA football program is truly a Shakespearean tragedy. The “lawyers” get a reprieve this time, “The first thing we do, let’s kill Mark Richt and his entire staff!”

What has been happening this year to this haggard bunch of BullPups is no fluke. It is no t some M. Night Shyamalan “Happening”, resulting from a bad tea leaf reading; due to some changed condition in the Chroma of the Sun; nor the effects of a perpetual full moon. There has been a very definite and discernable erosion of the Georgia Football System since Brian VanGorder left and all of Jim Donnan’s recruits graduated.

All of the BullDawg Nation, however, has chosen to stick its head in the  sand like the proverbial Ostrich and ignore the telltale signs that have been written on the wall in all BOLD PRINT! They became complacent because an 8 or 9 win season isn’t “so bad” when you have such a “nice” and “religious” man who heads up your football program. Well congratulations BullDawg contributors and season ticket holders! You have managed to shrewdly negotiate a 2.9 million dollar contract with a preacher with very questionable head coaching skills after ten years in the saddle, who will cost us $6.86 million dollars (buy out and longevity bonus) to fire after this season.

This is the man that after a quarter of the way into his career at Georgia announced that he would seek the help of some of this country’s corporate leaders to help him figure out how to organize his time and priorities to “Be a better leader”.

This is the man that after losing a fantastic defensive coach (which should have never happened) decided to take the lazy way out and simply promote VanGorder’s assistant, rather than going out and seeking the best Defensive Coordinator available for this school.

This is the same coach that after roughly half of his tenure elapsed decided that he simply could not call the offensive plays and manage the game clock at the same time, and that he needed to turn the play calling duties over to an Offensive Coordinator. So what does he do? He takes the lazy way out again and simply promotes BoBo, the Quarterbacks Coach, to probably the most important position on his staff; a job that should have gone to a tried and proven Offensive play caller. And, by the way, Richt and his staff still are totally incapable of managing the game clock or making sure that the right personnel are on the field, resulting in penalties and wasted time outs game after game after game.

This is the same coach who refused to terminate Willie Martinez as being ineffective in his job, until he was forced to last year (at least two seasons wasted), and obviously is doing the same thing with Mike BoBo, because they are “Family”

Finally, this is the same coach that could not even win the SEC Eastern division title, much less the SEC title, with the likes of Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, and A.J. Green on the same offense at the same time. Can you spell the word “PATHETIC?”

Allowing this cancer to grow this long without cutting out the tumor will with no doubt cost dearly both in terms of cash and rebuilding, when you Alumni and Benefactors with the power money finally decide to pull your head out of that pile of sand, clean house, and hire a proven head coach worthy of leading the University of Georgia football program. Until then, I suggest we delay announcing a new UGA VIII this weekend at the Vandy game. Instead an interim mascot should be announced. I give you the “Georgia Ostrich”.

“(Aside: [A.D. Greg] McGarity told the board that oversees the Georgia Athletic Association that the school faces a potential downturn in two revenue streams — ticket sales and donations — if apathy toward the football program grows…………….” (source: Albert Lin ESPN College Football)

So, what do you think?????????????

Remember, a blog with no comments is the same as the “Sound of One Hand Clapping”

P.S.S.  MY WIFE WANTED ME TO MAKE SURE TO INTERJECT HOW I REALLY FEEL ABOUT MARK RICHT THE MAN.  DO I HATE HIM?ABSOLUTELY NOT!  TO THE CONTRARY, I HIGHLY RESPECT THIS GENTLEMAN.  FROM THE FACTS I HAVE BEEN PRESENTED IN ADDITION TO MY PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH HIM REVEALS A  HIGHLY SPIRITUAL INDIVIDUAL; A WONDERFUL HUSBAND; A WONDERFUL FATHER; A CHARITABLE MAN; A DAMN GOOD OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND DEVELOPER OF YOUNG QUARTERBACKS.  I JUST THINK HE FLAT DOESN’T HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH (AT LEAST NOT IN THE SEC).
