I have been thinking a lot lately about our quarterback at Georgia, Aaron Murray. I have seen him play in every game this season but for the Colorado game, that was missed due to a High School Reunion. And the fact is, as we all know, and I have not seen any sports news agencies or UGA blogs disagree, that this kid is a “rock solid” quarterback. He is in fact an “all purpose” quarterback. Not one of the four games that we lost was due to the poor play or mistakes of this young kid. The losses were in spite of him pulling off some pretty heroic stuff, with the exception of the South Carolina game, where Richt tied the poor kid’s hands behind his back and wouldn’t let him play his game. The games were lost because of lousy line blocking, pathetic tackling, and worst of all the offensive play calling of a Chimpanzee. You know what I’m talking about, Bobo’s calls we see every single game: 3rd and one – throw the bomb; 3rd and twelve – run it up the middle with the smallest light weight back you have. Sorry for the digression!
Matt Stafford, a pure bred, pocket throwing, quarterback with no doubt a rocket arm, when looking at the whole package doesn’t come close to Murray in my estimation. Of course, at this point, we can only compare their freshman years, and Murray is only half way through his. However, that being said, Murray has the intangibles that Stafford never had at Georgia. First, his instincts for a red shirt freshman on what to do with the ball at what time boggle the mind. For the most part, he knows when to pass; he knows when it’s time to throw it away; and he knows when it’s time to take off with just as much gusto as any dedicated back we have. Secondly, he has the personality to be a leader. He is the team’s cheerleader ala Joe Cox, except that unlike his predecessor he has the talent to go with the leadership.
Now, let’s look at Matthew Stafford. His freshman year showed a quarterback with almost no instincts. Sure he had 50 million throwing attempts, but he threw more interceptions and got sacked more than anybody cared to see. And as far as personality and leadership, it was non-existent. He was stone faced and went about being the quarterback as if it were a 9-5 job. His team mates as much as said so publicly, and were quoted in newspapers as saying how aloof he was and how he pretty much stayed to himself. That is why they were so excited to play with Joe Cox in 2009. He was a “players” quarterback. But, unfortunately, but for the Arkansas game where Joe’s arm played about 4 levels above his pay grade, he was just an average college quarterback at best.
I know there are a lot of you out there that think I am totally nuts to not only compare these two, but to actually say that Aaron is a better quarterback. Well, to you naysayers, I say to you I have done my homework and statistics don’t lie (although I truly believe that Aaron’s value lies well above statistics), and so here they are, read ‘um and weep:
Through the first six games, Aaron Murray has 1366 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, a total average passing completion ratio of 61.8%, , 122 Rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, Rating of 152.07, 3 interceptions, 1488 Total Yards and 14 total touchdowns.

Matthew Stafford’s freshman year, 2006, he had 1,749 passing yards, 7 passing touchdowns, a total average passing completion ratio of 52.7%, 191 Rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns, Rating of 109.0, 13 interceptions, 1940 Total Yards and 10 total touchdowns.

As you can see, some of the stats Aaron has after 6 games beats what Matthew did the entire year. When you look at the projected stats for the whole year, based upon what he has done so far, he blows Stafford out of the water. So “put that in your pipe and smoke it!” I REST MY CASE———————–
