THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

Georgia vs Vandy, SEC win number two for our little dawgies, Dawgs 43 – Vandy 0.  Today was a good convincing win, unlike last week against Tennesee where you wonder “what if” the Volunteers had not turned the ball over four times to us (3 fumbles and 1 interception).  Would that one have been closer?  Who in the hell cares, a win is a win is a win.  Right?

Ok, lets break down what took place today, in order of importance, to-wit:

THE GOOD

  1. Florida Gators lost again and now have our same record in the SEC, I love it!
  2. Uga VIII was officially introduced at the game, and he is a beauty (see prior blog, UGA-101)
  3. The Dawgs had a convincing win over Vandy; won two in a row; have now won 2 SEC games; and did I mention we now have the same SEC record as the “Gators?” 🙂
  4. Aaron Murray had another super solid game, throwing and running like a demon, with no interceptions, including a 55 yard bomb on his first set of downs
  5. By the third quarter, the Dawgs had three scoring drives of over 80 yards
  6. Other than a couple of missed tackles early on, the Defense had an absolutely steller day, completely shutting out Vandy.  Kudos to Grantham, he is obviously working his butt off with these kids, and they are starting to catch on to the new 3-4 D
  7. With the exception of what is referenced below under “The Bad,” Bobo’s offensive play calling was 180 degrees better than the prior 6 games.  He mixed the run and the pass, using different receivers and runners to keep Vandy back on their heels.  The play calling was so much better that I truly question whether it was really him calling the plays, if you know what I mean.  However, since I have given him so much “hell” in my prior blogs, its only fair that I give him the benefit of the doubt and give him credit for a fairly well called game plan.

THE BAD

  1. In the 4th Quarter, with almost 11 minutes left, the game already out of reach for Vandy, on a 4th and 1 near Vandy’s 20, Bobo (or Richt?) calls for a field goal?  What in the hell for?  Is the extra 3 points all the sudden going to put the game out of reach for Vandy?  Nothing about that call made any sense whatsoever.  Why in God’s name do you not go for the first down?  If you don’t make it,  big deal.  That puts Vandy on their 20, and the score is still 43 to zip.  If you make it, you are giving your offense much needed practice in the red zone to get touch downs vs field goals.  Additonally, you are giving us a fresh set of downs to eat up clock. And, of course, we miss the field goal.  The whole drive for nothing. Unbelievable!
  2. Again in the 4th Quarter, with 9 minutes left we get the ball back.  True enough you have your true freshman, Hutson Mason in at QB, and you want to give him confidence with a scaled down package, but the offensive play calling puts us into total shut down, as if there is only 3 minutes left in the game.  First and second down is Munzenmaier up the middle, and third down is a hand off to a back, all with little or no gain?  Trying to eat up clock?  It took nothing off the clock.  This set of downs is what gave me a suttle hint that Richt might have been calling this whole game.  If you recall, when he was making all the offensive play calling, he was infamous for going into shut down, trying to just eat up clock when Georgia had the lead, way too early in the 4th quarter of almost every game.

THE UGLY

All three of our first half timeouts were used up within the first 5 minutes of the first quarter (way to early for us to have any clue which way this game was going to go).  Proof once again that this coaching staff still is clueless when it comes to having the right personnel out on the field at the right time and managing the clock.  Oh well, lets not beat a dead horse, we did win.  However, if you think we can do that against Auburn or Florida and get away with it, you would be wrong!

So, check it out!  I bought a crystal ball at a garage sale after the game today, and it was kind enough to reveal to me what happens the rest of the season.  It is fairly simple.  South Carolina will loose to Arkansas and Florida, which gives them 4 SEC losses (Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas & Florida); Georgia beats Kentucky, Florida and Auburn, leaving us with the 3 prior SEC losses (South Carolina, Arkansas and Mississippi State); Vandy will end up with at least 5, but probably 6 SEC losses (LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, Florida); Kentucky will end up with 4 SEC losses (Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Georgia); Tennessee will end up with 5 losses (Florida, LSU, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina) and the coup de grâce, Florida will end up with 4 losses (Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, and GEORGIA).  BOTTOM LINE IS GEORGIA WINS THE EAST AND GOES TO ATLANTA IN DECEMBER WITH 3 SEC LOSSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEH, LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF, BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS, REMEMBER YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST!!
