BATTLE OF THE THREE HEADED MONSTERS
By Editorial Staff
Kentucky, next up, is going to give us the battle of our lives, and we better be ready for them. They have talent; they have been getting better every game; and this culminated in them beating South Carolina last Saturday. Plus, we are playing in “their blue grass cotton patch!” We will be putting our three-headed monster against their three-headed monster (Murray, Green, and Ealey vs Hartline, Cobb, and Locke).
Tonight, let’s take a look at the quarterback battle. Kentucky has their 6’6”, 210 lb, senior, Mike Hartline #5. This last game against South Carolina he was 32-of-42 for 349 yards and four touchdowns. Not too shabby considering South Carolina’s Defense is no slouch! Our 6’1”, 209 lb, freshman, Aaron Murray #11 was 15-of-24 for 287 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Vanderbilt.

Mike Hartline, for the season, so far, has 1,791 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, 9 yards rushing, and 0 rushing touchdowns. Aaron Murray, for the season, so far, has 1,653 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, 158 yards rushing, and 4 rushing touchdowns.
Hartline’s passing attempts to completions ratio this year goes from a low of 53.8 (which isn’t bad) in the Florida game to a high of 82.1 (which is ridiculous) in the Auburn game. Murray’s passing attempts to completions ratio this year goes from a low of 55.6 (also not shabby) in the Arkansas game to a high of 68 (pretty damn good) in the Tennessee game.

Bottom line is that we have two very good talented quarterbacks that will be battling it out this coming Saturday. The advantage that Hartline has is his maturity. He is a senior; been there, done that; got the wildcat’s T-shirt. In a very close game with a lot of pressure, he will be less likely to panic or do something dumb like freshmen are apt to do. However, Murray’s advantage is his athleticism, most importantly his legs, and his football smarts, which is way beyond that of a typical freshman.

Look at the numbers above; if Hartline cannot find an open receiver, he’s not going anywhere. He can’t run. If we can get enough pressure on him with the 3-4 defense, that it appears our boys are finally getting the hang of, he will either be throwing the ball away or getting knocked on his “ass” all day long. If Aaron keeps doing what he’s been doing, and the coaches leave him the hell alone and let him do his thing, I think Mr. Murray will do just fine.
So, “drum roll”, the team with the Quarterback edge is Georgia! Murray’s combo of arm and feet trump the one dimensional pocket passer’s seniority in age and experience.
Tomorrow we will look at the wide receivers.
